Life on Earth

I have been a little bit off my game lately, what, with the holiday and all, but I am ready to get back at it this week. Sporting a pretty serious 4th of July hangover I am in absolutely no mood for jarring music, so Tiny Vipers’ release of Life on Earth could not come at a more opportune time. Jesy Fortino, the haunting voice behind Tiny Vipers, impresses me for a number of reasons. Not only do her songs sound chillingly beautiful, but I have a lot of respect for her subject matter as well. According to Jesy “Development” is about returning home to her wooded Seattle home only to find condos in place of the woods of her childhood. As a kid who grew up in a very rural area and often shared in her feelings of dread and wonder while exploring my surroundings I can only imagine the disappointment at finding all your old haunts paved over. Hopefully, I won’t have to see that day come.
