“I’m a baaaaaad man.”
Fred Falke started out as a bassist before moving towards production in the early aughts. He’s somewhat affiliated with the Daft Punk family tree, having worked for several years with Alan Braxe, who in turn played with DP member Thomas Bangalter in Stardust. Braxe and Falke have since parted ways, so if this were a true, old-school family tree of Daft Punk with Busy P, Ed Banger et al. off to the left, Falke would be off to the right with a squiggly scratch out of his connection to Braxe, perhaps with his face covered, depending on how bad the split was. I only hope they’re civil, for the sake of the children, if nothing else.
Since early 2008, Falke has been a darling of the blog scene, and with good reason: the man makes a terrific remix. I have harped on bad remixes (for example: calling a new track a remix after tacking it on to the “source” material) so I wont bore you with that again; rather, let’s look at this in a positive light. Falke possesses the uncommon ability to take an original song and work with a specific aspect of that original (usually the vocals) that enhances the listening experience.

I was just listening to Sound Opinions’ in defense of disco episode, and I gotta say, there’s a little of that disco steez in Falke’s brand of house. I defy anyone with a pulse who doesn’t take themselves too seriously to not want to boogie to the “Golden Cage” remix. In the words of Keith Jackson, “Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my…” is that track dope. Go listen…something old, something new(ish) and something we’ve linked to before.
