Tell me, What Will It Be?
I know I just claimed that Highlife track to be my favorite of ‘09, but this one by funky NYC crew Javelin is a close contender. Yes its a summer jam, but I don’t think its crazy to imagine that it will still be fun to listen to once it gets cold again. There are enough squiggles and squeals in here to keep everyone happy. Like they are laying out a sonic buffet and sincerely asking, What Will It Be?

As far as I can tell “Tell me..” is not off their sort-of-debut Jamz n’ Jemz, but that is the place to start if you want more Javelin. I’m sure I will get some flac for this, but the whole thing sort of reminds me of an indie Donuts (at least in format if nothing else): an eclectic 25 song mix of genres and styles that give you brief experiments in sound. For even more Javelin, they’ve got two 12” coming out on Thrill Jockey starting in November and then an official full-length on David Byrne’s imprint, Luaka Bop, sometime after.
