Culture Club, August 31, 2009 - RIP AM

First up, a moment of silence for DJ AM, who passed away this weekend at the age of 36. AM was, by all accounts, a fantastic person and a terrific DJ and he will be sorely missed. DJ Skeet Skeet, A-Trak and Justin Warfield of She Wants Revenge all posted wonderful, heartfelt tributes to AM over the weekend.

The rest of the links after the jump…

-Here’s an interesting piece on the money to be made by musicians through licensing to video games from the San Diego Union-Tribune
-Jay-Z was on Bill Maher’s show last week for an interview
-Speaking of Hov, he, Beyonce and her little sister Solange were all the news at Grizzly Bear’s Brooklyn Waterfront “Pool Party” yesterday. That’s cool and all, but I think two things were a little more interesting: 1) Chuck Schumer’s level of the stoke on Grizzly Bear and 2) That Dave1 wears the white suit with no shirt while not performing is slightly odd
-Taken by Trees’ cover of Animal Collective’s “My Girls” has been all the rage for the last few days, and now there’s a video too
-Aquarium Drunkard sat down with Vic Chesnutt for an interview
-P4k’s top music videos of the 2000s list is live. I’ve enjoyed all the lists from P4k, GvB and others, but I gotta say, some of the numbers of these lists are a little outlandish. Who has time to watch 50 music videos or read 200 blurbs?
-There’s a new mix from ADD over at Waves at Night, titled “This Ain’t no Disko”
-The Week in Music Releases from NME
-And finally, if you’re into this sort of thing, it looks like the PS 22 Chorus is going to be posting some of their covers from their ever-popular YouTube videos; first up, “Just Dance” (Lady GaGa) and “Flavor” (Tori Amos)
