[Tracks] SlothPop
I don’t know much about SlothPop, but I gather she is from somewhere in the great state of Indiana. In spite of her name, she isn’t making pop music and I hesitate to categorize her music. Older critics will be tempted to label SlothPop as freak folk, because it’s not Leo Kottke, but there’s nothing freaky about it. In the same way that some of Grizzlies Bear’s biggest tracks are really doo-wop played with different instruments (credit to friend of CotP Mike Who Knows Things for pointing this out), SlothPop’s making straight-forward, mellow folk music and adding in different vocal elements from other types of music.
I’m eager to get my hands on all of A+; I was only able to find these two and a half tracks. “Listen to the Trees!” cuts off abruptly (I don’t think the full track is on the internets just yet – but that first minute and a half is sublime, no? I need to hear where that track goes from its cut-off point. Giver her a listen. It’s a bit more mellow than most of what we’ve been posting of late, but interesting music nonetheless. And you have to love the earnest use of exclamation points.
