G5: January 30, Sunday… as always, or sometimes, your occasionally daily EP of links
- This video, titled Girl Walk and set to Girl Talk’s All Day, is fun. The folks at Cargo Collective are going to extend this dance piece to accompany the length of the album.
- The Guardian’s profile of Dilla, including a discussion of the adaptation - Suite for Ma Dukes - of some of his music for classical performance, is not to be missed:
“There is a depth and honesty in his music, in the way his beats meld together,” [virtuoso violinist Miguel] Atwood-Ferguson says. “His music is full of subtle things that most people aren’t aware of – and they shouldn’t have to be. People should just enjoy it.” - Someone on Twitter passed along this link for a January 1994 interview with Kurt Cobain. The pull quote, just three months before his suicide:
- P4k interviewed Jamie Smith of The xx about working with Gil Scott-Heron and Drake and the current minimalist sound in the UK.
- Sleigh Bells’ video for “Rill Rill” is out.
“And I’ve never been happier in my life. Especially within the last week, because the shows have been going so well — except for tonight. I’m a much happier guy than a lot of people think I am.”
