Aloe Blacc has made some interesting music over the years, recording both soul-influenced R&B and, earlier in his career, rap. He was thrust into the spotlight last spring after Scott Vener picked his brilliant “I Need A Dollar” as the theme song for HBO’s trying-but-not-succeeding-in-depicting-life-as-a-20something-in-New-York series How To Make It In America. I just stumbled across Blacc’s cover of “Billie Jean,” recorded this summer in memory of the one year anniversary of MJ’s passing… it’s an interesting reinvention of the track.
