Time Travelers

Upon being passed along some of Time Travelers’ music in late July, I was a little skeptical. The band is four friends of friends of the blog, all who attend Bates College. While I happily listen to everything that passes through our inbox, I can’t count the times that I’ve heard, “Hey, you have to hear my friend’s band, they’re great,” only to have the band be absolute crap.
But boy, I couldn’t have been further from the mark with Time Travelers. These four college students are making some fantastic folk pop that serves as really great summer music. All four sing together and play several different instruments, at times receiving accompaniment on strings, vocals and at the keyboard. Their sharing of vocal duties creates a rich experience: the backing vocals function as a fifth instrument, at times invoking the sound of a church choir, at others, that of ’50s and ’60s sunshine pop. There’s a breeziness to the music, a lightness to the percussion that just screams a windows-down drive to the beach. Sorry for ever doubting you, fellers.
Time Travelers debut EP, Bed of Roses, is available for free at their BandCamp page.
